My thoughts and theories:
On the night of September 12, 1952; a group of Flatwoods locals went to investigate a strange phenomina by a farm house on the edge of town. What they saw would become one of the first in a long line of UFO and Cryptid sightings in the state of West Virginia. At around 7:30 Pm; Kathleen May, Neil Nunley, Ronnie Shaver, Eugene Lemon went to investigate what a group of local boys claimed to be a "Flying Saucer crash landing" by an old farm. After traveling about ¼ of a mile the group reached the top of a hill, where they reportedly saw a large pulsating "ball of fire" about 50 feet to their right. They also detected a pungent mist that made their eyes and nose burn. Lemon then noticed two small lights over to the left of the object; underneath a nearby oak tree, and directed his flashlight towards them, revealing the creature, which is reported to have emitted a shrill hissing noise and to have begun to glide towards them before changing direction and heading off towards the red light. At this point the group fledDescribed as being at least ten feet tall, with a red face which appeared to glow from within, a green body, with a flowing "Skirt", and small arms with claw-like fingers. Witnesses described the creature's head as having bulging, non-human eyes and as either being shaped like a heart/an Ace of Spades, or as having a large heart/Ace of Spades shaped cowling behind it. The next day, Local newspapers would print a article about Mrs. May's encounter with a ten foot-phantom, and thus the legend of the Flatwoods Monster was born.
Closing statement: There has yet to be another sighting of the creature since 1952. With only one sighting to go by, this is a dificult one to fully belive in. Although, the question does remain, why would a group of people with nothing to gain but ridicule hoax something as outlandish as a massive alien monster. I've always keept an open mind about cryptids, especially about creatures with extraterrestrial origins. After all, the universe is unlimited. At least one of those thousnads of stars out there has a planet that can support life.
